An American sociologist, author and filmmaker, Jean Kilbourne, Ph.D., is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the image of women in advertising and for her critical studies of alcohol and tobacco advertising. She credited with introducing the idea of educating about media literacy as a way to prevent problems she viewed as originating from mass media advertising campaigns.
