Maya Angelou Inspired Student Poetry Contest
 Contest Rules

  1. All entries must be original work of the student.
  2. All entries must be typed or neatly printed on white paper. You may use the back of the Entry form or attach a separate sheet.
  3. Entries should be submitted to your school Librarian no later than Tuesday, March 27th.
  4. Contest winners from Elementary, Middle and High school levels will be invited to attend the “Evening with Maya Angelou” event.

  • Winners will be selected by the Auburn Education Foundation Poetry Contest Committee
  • Winners will be notified on or before April 15th.

The Dean LaDue Memorial Scholarship
1928-2007

The Dean LaDue Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by Mrs. Margaret LaDue, to preserve the memory of her beloved husband. Mr. LaDue was a graduate of Oswego State University, Brockport State University and the University of Rochester and was a WWII Army veteran. He served in the 5th Calvary Special Division and was among the first US troops to enter Japan during WWII. Mr. LaDue began his teaching career as a 5th grade teacher in Skaneateles and then went on to teach English, Social Studies, Chemistry and Physics in Port Byron. Mr. LaDue began teaching Math and Science in Auburn schools in 1963. He retired from Auburn Enlarged City School District in 1983.

Mr. LaDue met his dear wife Margaret while teaching in Weedsport. The two teachers married in 1948. The LaDue’s deeply value the importance of education and the teaching profession. Mr. LaDue’s student’s will remember him as a kind and soft-spoken gentle man with a passion for learning.

Criteria:
This scholarship will be awarded an Auburn High School Senior who has maintained an academic average of 85% or greater in MATH and SCIENCE, and Intends to pursue a career in TEACHING MATH or SCIENCE, or if no candidate is found meeting the above criteria, this scholarship may be awarded to a student pursuing a career in the field of MATH, SCIENCE or NURSING.
